[He's been staring at his journal for a while, just trying to find the right words. It's... difficult, in part because he's so surprised and also due to sadness.

When Ven speaks into the journal, he tries to hide his disappointment; as a result, he sounds pretty strained.]

Hey, guys. Looks like it's December now, which means Christmas is right around the corner. I heard about a party over the journals, but does anyone else have something fun planned? If it's anything like last year, we'll probably get a ton of snow. A big snowball fight could be fun. Just an idea.

[He sighs. This isn't working...]

Terra's gone. After all this time, I didn't think he'd... [A beat.]

Does anyone wanna hang out? Or do something? I think I need a distraction right now.

[There, at least he's being honest. And with that, he'll probably check up on his housemates (especially Vanitas) and then head out into the village for a bit. He might be wandering a little aimlessly. He'll be just about everywhere before he returns back to the house.

Care to cheer him up? Or antagonize him? Anything goes!]

[It's with great reluctance that Sanji hands over a knife. It makes him nervous, but there's nothing to replace hands-on instruction. Plus the kid's gotta learn some time.]

Watch me first. [He pulls out his own knife, and takes one of the carrots, slowing his movements enough for Ven to see what he's doing] Don't try and go too fast, got it? And keep your thumb tucked in unless you wanna lose it.

[Ven takes the knife very carefully. He might not be used to chopping vegetables, but he knows to handle this with care and err on the side of caution, since he's a newbie.]

Gotcha! I'll be careful.

[He follows Sanji's instructions, tucking in his thumb and grabbing one of the other carrots. He'll slowly slice it, making sure not to hurt himself. He's not as skilled with Sanji, but Ven's at least good at following directions for things like this.]

[Seeing Ven successfully cut up a carrot without any carnage is encouraging. Sanji's stance loosens once he's finished, and he passes him some of the mushrooms to slice. While Ven is busy with that, the chef heats up the frying pan and drizzles a light oil on top]

Just cut up the rest of the carrots and the mushrooms. I'll take care of the onions.

[Ven nods, continuing to cut up the carrots with a bit more percision this time.]

[He'll go for the mushrooms soon enough.]

[There's no rush, luckily. Sanji dices up the entire onion in a matter of seconds and throws it all into the pan, as well as the carrots once Ven's finished.]

Mushrooms are softer than the carrots and onions, so they go in at the very end. [Just a little cooking tip. And then Sanji finishes up with dicing the tomatoes as well]

[Oh, that is a good tip. Nodding, Ven continues to slice 'em until they're all done. They're definitely easier to cut, that's for sure.]

[A dash of garlic... some parsley and basil... He stirs the onions around so they don't burn, same as the carrots, and when the concoction is tender enough, adds the tomatoes and mushrooms too.]

Alright, now for the meatballs. [Sanji's already decided he'll let Ven handle this alone. He points out the ingredients on the counter] Beef, Italian sausage, basil, parsley, mushrooms, eggs, breadcrumbs, cheese, herbed salt, and pepper. See that bowl? Mix everything together by hand, then shape pieces into balls.

[He'll gather up the supplies and look 'em over carefully. So, he'll probably need to break the eggs first before he adds anything else.]

I'm gonna need to chop up the sausage, right?

[Not to mention more mushrooms, etc, if they aren't already set up.]

Aa. [He gives an affirmative nod, stirring the sauce.] Though don't worry about cutting the pieces up too small. It'll cook down.

[The cheese he'll need to cut, and probably more mushrooms, but the ground beef is soft enough to handle without the aid of a knife.]

[Well, Ven'll work through the ingredients, cutting them down to sizable proportions. Once he's satisfied, he'll go ahead and start mixing it together as instructed!]
