[Ever since Vanitas moved in, Ven's had a lot on his mind. Taking in the same guy who nearly killed a lot of his friends, took over his body, and caused general chaos isn't something most people would even consider.

But Ven's not like other people. He's far too nice for his own good, and what some may consider reckless he views as the 'right' thing-- especially when someone's starving and dehydrated.

So, when he opens the journal, he doesn't look or sound particularly sad-- just a little confused. Something's on his mind, if nothing else.]

Hey, guys. I've got a question... [A beat.]

Let's say you know this guy who's kind of a jerk. What's the best way to help him lighten up a bit and improve his attitude?

[Suddenly, there's another voice chiming in. One some people will probably recognize as Vanitas.]

I hear a lobotomy works wonders.

Hey!

[What follows is some shuffling, followed by a resounding SQUEAK! Probably from an inflatable hammer.]

[ooc: Italics = Vanitas. Ven's gonna be doing most of the talking, but Vanitas might make some background comments!]

That's weird... [I mean, everybody can be happy if they want to be, right?] Does he like... just want to be angry, or something...?

[But yeah, figuring out how to make someone see that optimism is actually a good thing? Well, if they're stubborn, it gets tricky. So she'll fall silent, pondering how best to approach the problem.]

Actually, it's all he really knows.

[... okay now she just feels bad. How could someone only know how to be angry?]

That's horrible! We gotta fix that...

I think so too. He's spent most of his life alone with his Master, being trained to fight me. Even if he's done a lot of terrible things, I can't help but feel sorry for him.

[It's a tough situation to be in. Seeing his friends nearly killed by his own darkness, yet still feeling some sort of sympathy. Ven's too nice for his own good.]

[Lindsay meanwhile... with her incomplete picture of the situation, can't help but feel similarly. This person... they did a lot of bad things, but if they'd never known how to be happy, or nice... What they did was still bad, of course but...]

Hmmm.... I guess we just... gotta find a way to show him how, then.

I don't expect him to change completely. Not when he's pure darkness, but if I can make things better for him, I will.

Nobody should have to be alone.

[And the idea of someone hating friendship is just so... strange to him.]

[VEN YOU JUST BECAME HER BEST FRIEND. ... well no, not quite but she the last part, the part about nobody having to be alone... yeah. That hits her, with her feeling lonely and homesick for her family and friends. It's enough that her mind glosses over a lot of that first part, though she might think a bit more about that "made of darkness" bit later. Maybe.]

Yeah... you're right. [She smiles a little.] That's really nice of you, um...

[Oops, she... doesn't know his name yet.]
