Hey, can anyone hear me? I heard some voices coming from this journal, so I hope I'm doing this right.

[A beat.]

Anyway, my name's Ventus, and I've got a quick question. Could anyone tell me about this place? It looks like I'm in a forest, but I don't see any people around. Truth is, I'm kinda lost.

[Those in the forest are sure to find this derp wandering around in new feather garb. He stops every once in a while to look around, occasionally scratching his head.

It's odd. While he's used to world travel and even changes brought on by it to a degree, the fact that he showed up in this world without any of his belongings or the Star Shard. His clothes, his armor, and even the Star Shard just up and disappeared, which makes no sense.

So what's he doing? Well, given the way he's aimlessly making his way through the forest, he's either a) really lost, b) looking for something, or c) a combination of both!]

Man, I wonder what happened. Did somebody steal it?

[And what is this "it"? Should anyone encounter Ventus, he might just explain! For now, he'll continue on his way.]

That's fine! I don't mind if it takes a little while. I just wish I knew where my clothes were; it's kinda chilly.

Yes, that...happens to everyone when they first arrive. They might be in the clothing shop by now.

Wait, does that mean I'm gonna have to buy them?

Fortunately, no. The village doesn't use money.

Whew, that's a relief! But if there's a clothes store, what about other belongings? I'm missing a couple of things that're really important to me.

Check the item shop. Sometimes things turn up there. Both of those are in the main plaza - you can't miss them.

Well, that's fortunate.

There are a few vampires. Probably some other things I don't know about, yet. And there might be a lion somewhere in the forest. But otherwise, no.

So that means no Unversed...

Never heard of them.

I don't really know what they are, but they're really dangerous, and I've seen 'em in all the worlds I've visited so far. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and they've caused a lot of trouble.

We just have to deal with the Malnosso.

And they're some kinda organization, right?

[At least, that's what he's getting out of all this.]

Precisely. They have the unfortunate position of running the place.

It sounds like they're pretty harsh, though. Why would they use us for experiments?

[Why yes, he's actually reading the guide. Gasp.]

[Giles is pleased. Not about the situation in general, just about the reading. It's a handy guide, isn't it?] The closest thing to an explanation I've ever gotten is that they're trapped here, like we are. And the experiments are their way of trying to find a way out.

But there's gotta be a better way! Putting people through experiments just isn't right.

There's almost certainly a better way. They just haven't taken it, and we just haven't found it.

So all we can do is stay put and let them mess with us?

For now, yes.

Things usually happen closer to the end of the month, however, so you should have some time to settle in.

Well, at least there's that. Guess I'll just have to make the most of it here.
